Southern California homes showcase some of the most exquisite gardens in the USA. Among them, lush properties in the coastal Los Angeles Basin provide gardeners a fertile workshop. Take a drive up Topanga Canyon or through Bel Air where the greenery rivals the Irish countryside.  Or tour the landscape of a Pacific mansion or charming cottage.  With a bit of encouragement, knowledge, and California camaraderie, anyone can successfully tend the gardens in Southern California.  Southern California Homes & Gardens in Coastal LA

Climates

Southern California Homes & Gardens in Coastal LASo many changing elements combine to affect weather in the coastal Los Angeles Basin. Temperatures, breezes, moisture, sunshine, and other factors.  The Mediterranean coastal climate favors so many flowers, bushes, and trees. Both natural vegetation and exotic tropical varieties of plants grow in Western Los Angeles.

Moderate to warm temperatures ring out any willing green homes. Although weather leans warm, it is also dry. Winters bring 2-3 inches of monthly rainfall. Summertime is much drier.  We may experience fluctuating temperatures, moving to over 100 any time of the year.

Ocean breezes cool down several of the coastal communities. For example, Santa Monica, Venice, and Culver City record much lower temperatures than places inland.  We also get those cyclic weather patterns such as El Nino.  These are driven by strong oceanic ecosystems.  Fellow gardeners and landscapers provide valuable resource for gardeners to roll with these moderate punches.
